The beginning…
The first World Riichi Championship was held in Paris in the hot summer of 2014. It was a great leap of faith for the host, Paris-based club TNT, overcoming language and cultural obstacles to hold the very first riichi mahjong event that brought players from all over the globe in the spirit of collaboration and competition.
Champion Hiroshi Yamai
Hiroshi Yamai of Japan fought it out with 120 players to claim the historic title of #1 World Riichi Champion. Not only a champion of the game, in later years he became a champion of the event. Actively promoting WRC and offering his generous support and expertise.
About the host Tri Nitro Tiles..
Created in October 2010 by Thomas' Brothers at Puteaux, France, Tri Nitro Tiles (TNT) was created for the promotion of the riichi mahjong game at international scale. The association has been the core of the WRC creation and first WRC organization in France in 2014 as well as the set-up of the first WRC Qualifier tournament for Vienna WRC 2022.
In 2019, TNT moved to the center of Paris in the 8ème arrondissement where all members can meet weekly for social and competitive sessions as well as strategic reviews and good practices sharing. All international players are welcome to join in sessions and also connect to the online community (discord). All information can be found on their website : https://tnt-rcr.com/home/
